Gardens on display to help charities

They will continue to take care of their gardens and host initiatives for charity.

Five property owners opened their beautiful gardens for viewing in Boksburg South on January 29 to raise funds for two charity organisations.

They opened their gardens for viewing for the first time since 2016.

Marisa McDonald, a homeowner in Sunward Park whose garden formed part of the tour, said they opened the gardens for a small entry fee for the public to experience them and be inspired.

All proceeds will go to Pixie-Pink-Victims’ Advocate, a charity organisation that rescues children who need safeguarding.

“The organisation also helps when social development doesn’t have the necessary resources or manpower to help the children. They also helped the family of the four children who died in the gas explosion recently.”

The other charity is Hemelse Pêrels NPC, an organisation that helps children with cancer and their families. They are currently assisting a five-year-old child who has cancer, Lieben van Zijl.

McDonald added that the gardens charity project was successful and sold 113 tickets.

“People viewed all five gardens and could have tea and cake or a light lunch during their viewing sessions. They could also ask gardening questions and learn more about plants.

“All five gardens were chosen because each of them brings something different to the table,” McDonald explained.
