Ward 10 project at Thambo Memorial Hospital kicks off
The Humanity Foundation is appealing for your support to renovate the health-care facility.
The Humanity Foundation launched its sustainable adoption of ward 10 at Tambo Memorial Hospital on April 1.
As part of the ongoing project to improve the state of the facility, the foundation intends to refurbish ward 10, including the staff room.
The foundation’s chairperson and a founding member, Pierre Marneweck, pointed out that they initially did an inspection to identify the needs.
“We noticed that tiles are missing and lights need replacement. Scraping down the walls and a fresh coat of paint is needed.
“The staff room, bathroom facilities, and the kitchen area need much love and attention because the facilities are old and endured many years of serving patients without being served themselves,” said Marneweck.
Donations of building materials
The foundation appeals to local businesses, individuals and other organisations to support the initiative by donating much-needed material.
“To upgrade this ward to a level we can all be proud of, our foundation needs a plaster key, plaster primer, polyfilla, tiles, grout, cement, paint, waterproofing, toilet and bathroom equipment, including bathtubs and basins, doors, lights, kitchen cupboards and various signage.”
On the day of the launch, the foundation also extended a helping hand by donating soft toys to over 86 children in the children’s wards (wards 11 and 12) at the hospital.
Members of the communities in Benoni and Boksburg donated the soft toys.
The day was supported by Mamba Strike Force and Intro Real Estates.
The CEO of the hospital Zenzo Ndabula, said: “We are excited about the project. We believe that partnerships between the hospital and the community are vital. It means building trust and confidence with the community we serve, and their involvement means that they believe we can do better and are willing to assist.”
