Four-legged visitors pop into retirement village

Witfield Retirement village gets a farm visit from The farm corner

The Farm Corner petting zoo visited Trans-50 Witfield Park Retirement Village to educate the senior citizens about farm animals on April 11.

Their aim is to provide an exciting and stimulating education experience for children and others by bringing friendly, woolly farm animals to them.

Various types of livestock visited, including a donkey, horse, calf, guinea pigs, chickens, bunnies and a tortoise.

The elderly had the opportunity to interact with the different animals and feed them.

Seen with a calf are Trans-50 Witfield Park Retirement Village’s Marie Bronkhorst and Bets du Plessis.

To add some fun, one of the visitors from Farm Corner, Harold Roper, played different sounds from a sound system and the elderly had to guess what the animal is.

“We love our oldies and we wanted to give them that feeling of being in a petting zoo once again,” said Roper.

Lesche Lombaard, from the centre, thanked the visitors for their generosity.

“Our residents look so happy and they clearly enjoyed having the animals around them. They did this free of charge and we were told it’s just because of their love for the elderly,” said Lombaard.
