GBV and substance abuse awareness in Witfield

An awareness drive on GBV and substance abuse was held in Witfield.

The Ekupholeni Mental Health and Trauma Centre and the Boksburg North SAPS visited Witfield to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and substance abuse on April 11.

Auxiliary social worker Sarah Ndlovu, Jane Madisha (community member), Sania Mashishi (community member), and auxiliary workers Jenivah Leshilo and Tebatjo Moopa.

Community members were told how to prevent GBV and substance abuse and how and where to seek help when their family or a community member is going through these situations.

The team handed out pamphlets about the impact of GBV and substance abuse.

Based at the police station, Ekupholeni helps counsel the victims and their affected families.

“We understand the sensitivity of these issues and the damaging effect they have, particularly when it comes to children, so we pay extra attention when dealing with them,” said Sarah Ndlovu, an auxiliary social worker from Ekupholeni.
