Aged get royal treatment

Nail tech graces Cosmos with her presence and gives them manicures and pedicures.

In celebration of Mothers’ Day, the senior citizens at Cosmos Old Age Home received a special treatment from local nurses on May 20.

Seen here are the event organisers. They are Yolande Koekemoer, Sharlene Peters and Linda Luclek.

During the event, organised by nurses Yolande Koekemoer, Sharlene Peters and Linda Luclek, the elderly were treated to manicures, pedicures and foot massages by a nail technician Refiloe Mlangeni, who was also assisted by the Cosmos caretakers.

Care worker Nosipho Mvula was excited to be part of the event.

The residents and their visitors also took part in a number of activities, including Rummikub, colouring in, dancing and card games.

Seen playing Rummikub are (from left) Andriette Pelser, Muriel Mosomane, Ria de Beer and Mampho Mbethe.

Residents expressed their excitement, saying events like these bring joy and warmth to their hearts.

Cosmos social worker Mampho Mbethe, who also took part in the activities, said, “I love seeing our residents this happy. We will always have activities for them to make their stay more joyful.”

Chaidan Peters (left) kept the crowd entertained with his deejaying skills, while Shanon-Lee Jacobs and Jessica Groblee assisted the team to pamper the elderly.

Luclek said her late mother was a resident of the centre.

“Cosmos will always have a special place in my heart because my mother was very happy here,” she said.

Mlangeni, who is also a qualified nurse, said: “I decided to give the elderly the feeling of being in a nail salon once again.”

Three youngsters, Chaidan Peters, Shanon-Lee Jacobs and Jessica Groblee, who are in Grade 12 at Boksburg High School, served as volunteers during the event.
