Resident thankful for advice on dogs with breast cancer

The family is grateful for the assistance they got from the Boksburg SPCA.

A Witfield resident’s two Jack Russells are his top priority, but he could not afford treatment for their mammary cancer and recently sought help.

Nick Hall visited the Boksburg Advertiser to explain his situation.

The Advertiser immediately reached out to SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, and she responded, saying she would contact Hall to arrange for his dogs to see their vet.

Hall explained that they got Nuscha and Lady in Rustenburg in about 2010. Lady was a puppy, and Nuscha, her mom, was an adult.

“They were neglected and riddled with ticks and fleas. Our son brought them to us.

“My son and I were working at that stage, so it was no problem to take them in, clean them up and give them a good home,” explained Hall.

However, in 2015, Hall and his son lost their jobs due to health issues.

Nuscha.

“Nuscha and Lady are still our babies, and we love them, but money was just not there to help treat their health issues.

“Since contacting the Advertiser, the SPCA contacted us and told us that our dogs could live with their condition a while longer. We must, however, ensure the tumours do not rupture because flies will infest them.”

Finnemore confirmed that the SPCA vet examined the two dogs.

“Unfortunately, the tumours are widespread, and surgery will not help,” she said, adding that dogs are most likely to develop mammary cancer if not sterilised.

Hall thanked the Advertiser and the SPCA for their interest and help.
