Metro to attend to Chris Hani Clinic water and electricity woes

Dlamini explained the water supply backup system at the clinic was faulty.

The City of Ekurhuleni has responded to the Boksburg Advertiser’s request for comment on the lack of water and power backup systems at the Chris Hani Clinic in Villa Liza.

The comment came a few days after this publication ran a story highlighting the unhygienic environment and service delivery disruption the frequent water cuts and power outages bring to the facility.

The complainants, including from Ekurhuleni DA PR Clr Sinethemba Matiwane and patients, highlighted how the lack of working backup systems at the facility subjected workers and patients to the risk of infections during water cuts and power outages.

In response to our request for comment, the spokesperson Zweli Dlamini admitted the department was aware of the situation at the clinic.
Dlamini explained the water supply backup system at the clinic was faulty.

“The JoJo tank was overflowing, as the system did not have a function to stop the pump when the tank was full. The technicians switched off their electrical supply to solve the problem. This intervention affected the water supply from the JoJo tank to the clinic during water cuts,” explained Dlamini.

When asked when the city would attend to this issue, Dlamini said they submitted a work order to the city’s Real Estate Department on April 25. They dispatched the plumbing team to the clinic on June 28.

We also asked the metro if the clinic had a backup power system, such as a generator or solar system. In his response, Dlamini said, “The Chris Hani Clinic has a generator but is currently not functional because someone stole its battery. They submitted a work order to the Real Estate Department to replace it,” said Dlamini.
