A 12-wheel truck trailer caught fire on the N12 westbound under the Rondebult Road bridge on July 21.
William Ntladi, the Ekurhuleni DEMS spokesperson, said according to information gathered at the scene, binding wheel bearings or brakes caused the fire.
“Our emergency personnel from the Leon Ferreira Fire Station responded swiftly to the incident and intervened.
“However, by the time they arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread and burnt goods on a trailer, including rolled metal sheets,” said Ntladi,
He added that the left-hand lane of the highway was temporarily closed.
“The truck driver’s decisive action of disconnecting the trailer from the truck helped to minimise the damage,” explained Ntladi.
There were no reports of injuries.
