Tamryn White, a Grade Eight learner at Woodlands International College shined at the recent Benoni Eisteddfod at Tom Newby School.
Tamryn entered the vocal category in collaboration with her instructor and coach, Duerell de Pontes from Duerell’s School of Music, Drama and Dance in Benoni.
Tamryn attained the following distinctions:
98.40% for vocal solo (A++)
96.00% for musical theatre (A+)
92.00% for other language (A+)
She was subsequently invited to attend the special awards evening where they presented her with the junior high school vocalist runner-up award.
Tamryn began her training with De Pontes a year ago, prompting her proud mentor to remark upon how dramatically the young performer’s voice and confidence have strengthened in a relatively short period.
“I was expecting the results she achieved. Tamryn has been practising and working very hard. The results have shown,” added De Pontes.
Furthermore, earlier in June, Tamryn participated in the South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA) Musical Eisteddfod, attaining honours and distinction in the vocal solo, other language (Afrikaans), and musical theatre categories.
