Broken toilets at Boksburg Clinic demand action

It's still unclear as to why it has taken so long to fix the problem. The Advertiser is awaiting the metro's comment.

Health concerns have been raised over the deteriorating state of the ablution facilities at the Boksburg Clinic at the Boksburg Civic Centre on Market Street.

The unfavourable general state of the facility and broken toilet equipment, which resulted in the unavailability of functioning toilets for patients and staff, prompted a woman who recently visited the clinic to escalate the matter to the ward councillor, Marius de Vos.

The matter was also brought to the Advertiser’s attention. This publication visited the facility on November 7 to find only one working toilet for men, while the urinals are damaged and not available for use.
No toilet paper and soap are available for patients.
There is only one working toilet available for females too. The sink for hand-washing is broken and cannot be used.

De Vos, who described the mess as disgusting, called for urgent repairs and improvements of the facility and added that the general upkeep of the centre is a long-standing issue that has been undermining the healthcare facility.

He pointed out that, due to the increasing volumes of people using the facility, he has for the past few years during the municipal’s IDP consultative processes been making requests for the metro to find a conducive space and build a new clinic that will be equipped enough to meet the growing demand.
