In another incident on December 12, police responded to a complaint of shooting on Clarence September Street at 21:00.
Msimanga said on arrival, officers found a blue Hyundai Atos with an adult male with gunshot wounds on the stomach, left arm and buttocks on the passenger seat.
The victim was also taken to the hospital for medical attention.
There were nine bullet holes in the front passenger door and the police found 18 cartridges on the scene and taken in for forensics.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown, and the suspect is unknown at this stage.
Police are investigating a skeleton docket for attempted murder.
Msimanga confirmed the police are investigating the possibility that the shootings are connected.
The Reiger Park SAPS is appealing to the community of Reiger Park to come forward with information regarding the shootings.
Community members can report information anonymously on 10111 or the MySAPS app.
Ward 34 Clr Edith Klassen said many people died last year and things could not continue like this.
Klassen pointed out the shootings were suspected to be gang and drug-related.
“The situation is bad and I am at my wits’ end. Something has to be done about the issue. We are fearing for our children’s lives. I understand the police have a shortage of manpower and vehicles, but maybe we can get assistance from a provincial level. I plead with law enforcement authorities to jump in as I don’t want the community to take matters into their own hands.
“It is also a problem that the people who can provide information regarding the incidents are too afraid to speak out.”
