The Mzansi Chamber Music Collective (CMC), a registered NPO, is bringing an exceptional experience to Benoni on April 28.

Their director Rijnhardt Kotze explained CMC showcases South Africa’s classical music talent.

“We are dedicated to creating a sustainable platform that spotlights the extraordinary talent of classical musicians, with a special focus on chamber music. Our concerts and hosted in Johannesburg and Benoni.

“By celebrating local talent, we also guarantee fair compensation and artistic freedom to our musicians, in the process cultivating dedicated and appreciative audiences for South African chamber music.”

Last year, the CMC presented 19 intimate concerts, selling 1 600 tickets, which provided a performance opportunity and guaranteed income to 32 musicians. They also supported local heritage foundations and small businesses.

Award-winning and internationally acclaimed musicians featured in their 2023 concert series included:
• Khaniyisile Mthetwa, SAMA-winning flautist.
• Ben Schoeman, Steinway Artist and winner of the UNISA International Piano Competition.
• Megan Geoffrey-Prins, winner of the UNISA National Piano Competition.
• Zanta Hofmeyr, celebrated violinist.

“This year, we will do more to promote local musicians,” Kotze said. “We will be presenting 25 concerts, expanding into Benoni with 11 concerts, which will support 44 musicians.”

He added they have secured sponsorships for the initiative this year.

“We are fortunate to have three sponsors onboard – Rupert Music Foundation, Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) and, again, FrameAML. We are in the process of applying for tax exemption and PBO status to issue donation certificates.”
