WATCH: Progress made on R80m project to repair bridge ruined in gas tanker blast
Workers are currently building the retaining wall and abutment structure of the bridge.

While the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) remains mum on the project to rebuild the railroad bridge destroyed in gas tanker explosion in Plantation, the Boksburg Advertiser has noticed that the contractor has since the inception of the project made extensive repairs to the infrastructure.
When the Advertiser revisited the site this week, workers were hard at work.
It’s understood that the about R80m project, which started late last year, is estimated to be completed before the end of this year.

Both residents and the metro indicated that they welcome the reconstruction of the facility as it will relieve the pressure on the nearby alternative route and ease the problem of traffic congestion in the suburb.
According to the municipal’s IDP and budget, the city has put aside R500 000 to be used on the project to demolish and repair the municipal-owned portion of the wrecked bridge and stretch of Railway Street and Hospital Road during the 2024/25 financial year.
