LETTER: Our CBD is shameful

‘Anonymous’, Boksburg, writes:

As a ratepayer for many years in Boksburg, I am completely disgusted at the huge squatter camp we are living in.

Coming into town, there are squatters set up next to the wall at the Boksburg Court and on pavements and the buildings are totally neglected.

The traffic department is filthy.

I think the best-paid staff are municipal cleaners – they sit all day on their phones chatting and laughing.

They are the downfall of all our municipal structures, as are pavement and road staff, a complete disgrace.

Two blocks up, a state-of-the-art shopping centre is being built. What a laugh.

Also, our civic centre has not had the exterior, or gardens cleaned for years.

We will also soon have a state-of-the-art university on the edge of our main squatter camp.

Crazy!

Why should I be hounded if my rates are late but in turn get nothing for my 99.9% on-time payment record?

This should be reported to President Ramaposa as he faithfully promised better and more efficiently run municipalities in his election promises.

I feel very sad about our city centre.
