Loyal SPCA staff recognised

The SPCA is grateful for drivers' loyalty towards the society.

Boksburg SPCA drivers David Kholu and Docter Mphela have been making a difference in the community for decades, assisting thousands of animals.

They were recently presented with long service awards at the National Council of SPCAs AGM.

Kholu has been an employee of Boksburg SPCA for 40 years and Mphela for 30 years.

Kholu said he’s extremely happy and honoured about being recognised by the NSPCA.

“I grew up on a farm in the Free State and always loved animals,” he said.

His favourite thing about his job is to look after animals, although he added that residents often inform them too late about sick animals.

“By the time we get there the animals are in a bad condition,” he said.

The other long-serving driver said he is delighted to have received an award.

“It’s hard work, but it’s rewarding,” said Mphela, who grew up in Limpopo with a love for animals.

He said his passion for animals keeps him motivated.

Mphela added that the Boksburg SPCA has grown a lot since he started working for the society.

Boksburg SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore said the society is grateful for the drivers’ loyalty and hard work.
