WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT: Over 20 piglets stabbed at informal piggery in Mapleton
Investigations are underway.
The Boksburg SPCA attended a horrendous scene on January 29 where over 20 piglets were stabbed at an informal piggery between Mapleton and Vosloorus.
According to Boksburg SPCA inspector Tshepo Sithole, the SPCA received a call from Dawn Park about piglets that were stabbed.
“Upon arrival, the owner told us that over 20 piglets had been stabbed during the night. Fourteen of the pigs were already dead, and the others were severely injured and we had to humanely euthanize them. They were ‘butchered’. We suspect with a knife or panga, just enough to suffer.

“We were also told that the gate was also left open for the pigs to run free.
“Furthermore, the owner has about 10 adult pigs that were not injured. They only targeted the piglets,” said Sithole.
Sithole said the motive of the attack on the piglets is still unknown.
The Dawn Park SAPS has not yet commented on the issue. The Boksburg Advertiser is still trying to get comment from the owner.
