#CansaShavathon: locals pledge support for survivors

The event is aimed at raising funds and awareness for cancer research, support, and education.

With the 23rd annual Cansa Shavathon set to be launched on March 1 under the theme ‘Fearless Hair to Show you Care’, some locals have indicated that they will be giving their full support to this initiative aimed at making a big difference to the quality of life of people living with cancer.

Among those who have made pledges are Plantation’s Jacqueline Oaden Koen (36) and her husband Flippie (44), as well as their three boys.

To show their support for this year’s Shavathon, for the very first time, Jacqueline plans to get her hair sprayed with all the colours of the rainbow, while Flippie will get his hair cut at a local Shavathon event in Boksburg.

Jacqueline Oaden Koen and her husband, Flippie, will be supporting the Cansa Shavathon at the East Rand Mall.

“Cancer is a serious issue. It hit home when I lost close family members to cancer. It’s not something to joke about,” said Flippie.

Jacqueline said: “We want to help others, because I would appreciate it if someone did it for me if I had cancer. My boys are also excited to shave their hair.”

The couple is encouraging the community to support this year’s Cansa Shavathon.

“Let’s do it. It’s for a good cause and it’s fun.”

The 23rd annual Cansa Shavathon will be at selected shopping malls across the country.

Confirmed Shavathon events to be held on March 1 are:
• East Rand Mall at the Foschini court on from 08:00 to 14:00.
• The Sheridan Centre in Farrarmere from 09:00 to 14:00.
Donation fees are R50 per adult and R25 per child under 12 to take part.

Community groups (schools, churches, families) and corporates can host their own Shavathon at any time of the year.
