REMINDER: Water outage to hit certain areas as Rand Water maintenance enters second phase
Frustration is mounting in Windmill Park, where residents are still grappling with a water outage as Rand Water moves toward completing phase one of its major infrastructure maintenance programme.
The City of Ekurhuleni reminds residents that Rand Water will conduct the next phase of its comprehensive maintenance tomorrow, June 3. The work is expected to last between 10 and 12 hours.
The maintenance will affect the Palmiet water supply system, resulting in interruptions to the water supply in Boksburg, Alberton, Germiston, and Edenvale.
The maintenance scheduled to take place from 06:00 to 16:00 will affect the following areas:
Boksburg: Hughes, Witfield, Ravensklip, Boksburg North, Dayanglen, and Morganridge
Edenvale: Bedfordview, Senderwood, and Essexwold
Alberton: Meyersdal Eco Estate
Another round of maintenance, scheduled from 06:00 to 18:00, will affect the following areas:
Norton Small Farms, Dinwiddie, Albemarle, Race Way Industrial, Castleview, Wychwood, Jupiter, South Germiston, Gosforth Park, Malvern East, Wadeville, Cruywagen Park, and Roodekop Extension 31.
The city said it will continue to deploy water tankers to help mitigate the impact of the water supply interruption.
Water supply will be gradually restored once the maintenance is completed.
Frustration mounts
Frustration is mounting in Windmill Park, where residents are still grappling with a water outage as Rand Water moves toward completing phase one of its major infrastructure maintenance programme.
One of the residents, Daisy van der Merwe, said they had only one water tanker supplying water to thousands of families on Saturday evening. The tanker did not return on Sunday or Monday.
“Many of us here only managed to get one or two buckets of water. That’s not even enough to last us a day. We need water for the toilet, to cook, wash, and bathe, and some of us have small children,” she said.
“We are sick and tired of the poor service we receive from Ekurhuleni. Other nearby areas like Dawn Park and Villa Lisa have water tankers, and some sections already have their water restored.”
Rand Water began servicing its system on May 29, resulting in several days of water supply disruptions in Ekurhuleni and other parts of the province. The bulk water supplier expects to complete the first phase of the maintenance work by 17:00 today, before beginning the second phase tomorrow.
The metro has not yet responded to our request for comment regarding the reported shortage of water tankers in Windmill Park.
