Dawn Park SAPS strengthens community ties at Windmill Park imbizo

Dawn Park SAPS and community partners held an Imbizo in effort to take action to fight crime and build trust.

Dawn Park SAPS held a community imbizo in Sector 1, Windmill Park, aimed at addressing crime concerns and reinforcing ties between the police and the community, on July 12.

The event was organised in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), EMPD, the Youth Desk, Community Safety, and community patrollers.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula explained that the primary objective of the imbizo was to introduce these stakeholders to the residents, clarify their roles, and provide a platform for community members to voice their concerns and engage in constructive dialogue.

“Residents raised several pressing issues, chiefly the increasing crime rate and the lack of visible policing. Community members called for 24-hour patrols and stronger co-operation between the police and residents,” Mabula said.

She emphasised the importance of mutual trust and collaborative efforts between SAPS and the community to ensure peace and safety in Dawn Park.

“The event also highlighted the significance of early intervention and active community involvement. Parents were encouraged to guide their children towards positive life choices, including considering careers in SAPS by applying for available posts.”

Mabula said residents were reassured of enhanced police visibility in the area, and the public was urged to report any suspicious activities or concerns about police conduct.

The imbizo concluded with a message of unity and partnership. Community members were thanked for their active participation and encouraged to remain engaged in crime prevention initiatives.
