Hannon and Christene push bakkie loaded with donations to support Boksburg North SAPS

They say South Africans have ‘gees’ like no other – and that spirit recently came to life through two public figures, a heavily loaded bakkie, and an inspiring act of generosity toward the Boksburg North SAPS.
Chris Batts of Radio Hi 5 Stereo and Sport Against Crime, together with CMH East Rand Isuzu, displayed incredible community spirit by hosting a unique charity drive to make a difference.
With the help of celebrity Hannon Bothma of Hannon Cosmetics and his partner, Mrs SA semi-finalist Christene Steynberg, the event gathered donations for the Boksburg North Police Crime Prevention and Victim Empowerment Centre, which serves the most vulnerable in our community.
The pair physically pushed a vehicle packed to the brim with non-perishable food, clothing, and toys for 500m along ]North Rand Road.
Chris said numerous companies and supporters from the public were involved.
“Everyone enjoyed seeing Hannon and Christene working up a sweat. A highlight was when they both got into the back of the police vehicle to head to the start of the event, where the goods-laden vehicles were waiting for them.”

Reflecting on the day, Hannon said: “Travelling across the country, we see desperation every single day. As a cosmetic brand, we are much more than beauty and vanity; we want to use our platform for good. When Chris called, Christene and I didn’t hesitate.”
“At East Rand Isuzu, they welcomed us like celebrities. When they showed us the bakkie we had to push, I was a little nervous.
“It was tough, but afterwards we tucked into a boerie roll and soaked up the festive atmosphere. There is so much bad news in the world, but days like this remind us that small acts of kindness create actual change.”
For Christene, the day was filled with laughter, muscle burn, and moments of real emotional impact.
“I honestly did not know what to expect. We laughed so much during the experience. We thought we were fit, but honestly, we were panting like geese by the end.
“It opened my eyes to the needs of others. What truly touched me was seeing the donated toys, some of which may reach children who have never had a toy.”
