Despite assurances from municipal authorities that investigators were pursuing information which could lead to a breakthrough in the Boksburg metro bus depot armed robbery case, Boksburg police have not yet identified or arrested any suspects.

In the early hours of Monday morning (October 27), a gang of armed criminals, reportedly driving a truck, forced their way into the depot. They held the two night-shift security guards at gunpoint and tied them up before moving to the parking area, where they stripped six buses of their rims and tyres, leaving the vehicles propped up on bricks.

The thieves also ransacked the workshop, stealing spare parts and vandalising other buses as well as a council-owned bakkie parked on the premises.
Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba confirmed that no arrests have been made and that the investigation is ongoing.
She said detectives are still working to obtain and analyse CCTV footage.

Speaking to the Advertiser on site, MMC for Roads and Transport Management, Andile Mngwevu, said preliminary information suggests the robbery may have been an inside job involving contractors.
He believes the incident is linked to a syndicate operating across the city and targeting municipal assets.
