Five New Year’s babies welcomed at Tambo Memorial Hospital
From the early hours of New Year’s Day, five newborns brought smiles to families and staff at Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The first cries of 2026 rang out early at Tambo Memorial Hospital, where five babies were born on New Year’s Day, bringing joy to their families and staff as the new year got under way.
The first baby of the year arrived at 02:15. Baby Mashiakgomo, a girl, was born weighing 2.80kg to her mother, Refiloe Mashiakgomo.

“I went through a lot and now that my baby was born it’s such a blessing. It’s my second child,” said Refiloe.
At 04:45, Baby Ndlovu, a boy weighing 3.41kg, was born to Emory Ndlovu, becoming the hospital’s second New Year’s baby.
Shortly before 06:00, two more boys followed in quick succession.
Baby Mncube, a boy weighing 2.80kg, was born to Tiny Thandeka Mncube.




Meanwhile, Baby Jansen van Vuuren was welcomed into world, weighing 3.49kg, by Stephanie Jansen van Vuuren.
“I am very happy and excited. At first, I thought we were going to have a Christmas baby, but I then went into labour shortly after midnight,” she said.

The New Year’s celebrations continued into the morning with the arrival of the fifth baby. Baby Mhlahlo, a girl weighing 3.32kg, was born at 07:30 to Boitumelo Mhlahlo.
“I’m tired, but I’m happy,” said the proud mother.
