Oli still waiting for his forever home at Boksburg SPCA
Boksburg SPCA still on the hunt for Oli's perfect match
He has his own routine, his favourite people and a special place in the hearts of staff, but the dachshund-cross puppy surrendered to the Boksburg SPCA in a car oil-soaked bucket is still hoping his forever family will walk through the gates.
Oliver made headlines after his owner walked into the society in May, 2021, with the bucket and told staff he no longer wanted the dog and said it had been sick for a long time. The society has since showered him with love, care and medication.
Fondly known as Oli, the much-loved dachshund continues to do well at the SPCA and has settled comfortably, according to SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore.

“He’s doing very well and absolutely loves his routine. He doesn’t enjoy weekends and public holidays as much when staff aren’t around, but during the week he’s very happy and settled.”
Oli receives regular veterinary care and undergoes routine health checks every six months to ensure he remains healthy.
Although Oli has been at the SPCA for several years, Finnemore said the organisation is still open to the idea of adoption – provided the right person comes along.
“We would consider adopting him out to someone special who can give him a home and a warm bed to sleep in every night. It would be much better for him to be in a private home rather than spending nights or public holidays in the kennels.”
Finnemore explained there are no challenges preventing Oli’s adoption. Instead, the SPCA is simply waiting for the right match.
“We just haven’t had the right person come forward yet,” she said.

The ideal home for Ollie would be with someone who works from home or is able to spend a lot of time with him. He would do best in a household with either one other dog or no dogs at all, where he can receive plenty of attention.
“He deserves a loving home where he can be the king,” Finnemore added.
Estimated to be between seven and eight years old, Oli is one of the Boksburg SPCA’s longest-standing residents.
While staff have grown deeply attached to him, Finnemore said it would be wonderful to see him find a home where he can enjoy his senior years.
“We’re in no rush. We love having him here, but he’s getting older and it would be lovely for him to retire into a home of his own.”

Finnemore confirmed Oli is an exceptional case and will not be euthanised.
“The adoption process for Oli is the same as for any other dog.”
Members of the public interested in meeting Ollie or giving him a forever home can contact the Boksburg SPCA directly or visit the society.
