WARNING: Safety alert after child harassment incident observed in park

It highlights growing concerns raised by residents about safety in the park, particularly for young girls and women who use the space daily.

While visiting the park next to Rebel Food along the Atlasville spruit, the Boksburg Advertiser witnessed and photographed what appeared to be inappropriate behaviour involving a minor.

A homeless man was seen stopping and inappropriately touching a young girl’s thigh and hip while she was cycling across the footbridge. The disturbing incident took place in full view of the public.

Community members, who are calling for urgent coordinated action from local authorities to restore safety to this public space, said the ongoing presence of intoxicated individuals and the lack of sustained intervention have left park users, especially minors, vulnerable.

The Advertiser will engage with authorities on the footage we took on the day, as we strongly feel urgent intervention is required.

Parents and guardians are urged to:
• Accompany children when walking through the park.
• Remind children not to engage with strangers in the area
• Report any suspicious or inappropriate behaviour to parents or local authorities immediately.
