EMPD corruption crackdown: Two Ekurhuleni officials in Boksburg Magistrate’s Court over fraud and corruption charges

The corruption investigation within the EMPD is gathering pace after a second senior official was arrested just hours before today’s court appearance.

Two senior officials from the City of Ekurhuleni are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court today, April 20, following their arrests in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation.

The Boksburg Advertiser is at court and will provide updates as proceedings get underway.

The SAPS confirmed that its Madlanga Commission Task Team arrested another senior municipal official on April 19, in Johannesburg. The arrest comes a day after suspended EMPD acting chief Julius Mkhwanazi was taken into custody at his home.

Mkhwanazi’s arrest followed his recent appearance before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Both the newly arrested official and Mkhwanazi face charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating or obstructing the ends of justice.

According to police, the arrests form part of a broader investigation into alleged corruption within the EMPD.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
