Calling all knitters! It’s time to spread winter warmth again

Donations of wool are turned into beautiful hand-crafted items for distribution to the elderly and children.

As Gauteng’s crisp autumn days give way to the biting chill of winter, the Boksburg Advertiser has once again launched its annual Winter Wool Drive, an initiative aimed at keeping vulnerable residents warm during the coldest months of the year.

With your generous donations of wool, the project supports local knitting groups who create teddies, beanies, scarves, blankets, and other warm garments for those in need.

These handmade items are distributed to organisations that care for vulnerable communities, particularly children and the elderly.

All types of wool are welcome, regardless of quality, quantity, or texture.

Donations of completed knitted items, including beanies, scarves, blankets, and other winter essentials, will also be gratefully accepted.

The Winter Wool Drive runs from this month to July 31.

Previous drives have received tremendous support from both individuals and local organisations, enabling the Boksburg Advertiser to reach even more people during harsh winter conditions.

Encouragingly, some loyal supporters have already stepped forward ahead of the official launch of the 2026 drive to donate wool and finished garments.

We are thankful for the support the project has received so far. Our goal is to collect even more items this year.

The more support we receive from the public, the more people we can help. Every donation counts, and your contribution can make a real difference in someone’s life.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:
• Boksburg Advertiser offices, 20 Sydney Road, Ravenswood
• Med-Leigh Pharmacy, The Square Shopping Centre, Rietfontein Road
• Vellie Boutique, corner of 6th Street and Rietfontein Road
• Eyeland Optometrist, Shop 17E, East Rand Mall
• Parkrand Slaghuis, Trichardts Road and Kirsch Street
• Heckers Garden Centre, North Rand Road
