#June30: 'March within the confines of the law' mayor urges as he confirms it's business as usual for service delivery
The city has activated operational plans to ensure that essential services remain available.
Service delivery will be uninterrupted tomorrow (June 30) and measures are in place to safeguard residents and protect infrastructure and maintain stability.
This is the message from executive mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza regarding the planned marches against illegal immigration.
He has also called for the right to march to be exercised in a responsible and law-abiding manner.
“The city has activated operational plans to ensure that essential services remain available and that communities continue to receive the support they need during this period.
“We will continue working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure marches remain peaceful.
“Law enforcement agencies and city departments have put in place the necessary contingency measures to safeguard residents, protect public infrastructure, and maintain stability across the city,” he said.

He reiterated that the city respects the constitutional right of residents and organisations to express their views through peaceful and lawful protest, but called for the planned marches to proceed in a safe and orderly manner.
“The right to protest is an important part of our democracy. However, this right comes with the responsibility to ensure that all actions remain within the confines of the law.
“The City calls on all participants to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, and to refrain from any acts of intimidation, violence, damage to property, disruption of essential services, or any criminal activity.
“The city further appeals to all residents to cooperate with officials and to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our communities.
“Differences and concerns must be addressed through constructive engagement and lawful processes.”
