Christian radio station launches in Boksburg
SONshine FM says listeners will be able to contribute to community news and traffic updates, share testimonies and prayer requests.
A Christian online radio station has launched in Bardene, Boksburg, with plans to reach listeners across Ekurhuleni through faith-based programming and discussions on community and everyday issues.
SONshine FM held its soft launch on August 1, only six weeks after the idea for the station was first conceived.
According to station spokesperson Tanya Parsons, establishing the station came during a Sunday afternoon in mid-June.
“It was an instruction from God,” she said.

She said the station’s rapid development was made possible through the people who came on board to help turn the idea into a functioning platform.
Its programme schedule includes a municipal service delivery discussion on Mondays, followed by lifestyle content covering topics such as finance and legal matters. Wednesdays focus on health, wellness and careers, while Thursdays feature marketplace ministry.
The station also intends to provide space for local performers and community participation. Its plans include karaoke on Tuesdays, interviews with new and established artists on Fridays and an open-mic programme on Saturdays.
The station’s Christian identity is also reflected in its name.
Parsons explained that ‘SONshine’ refers to Jesus Christ as the Son of God, with the name drawing a distinction between the natural sun and Jesus as a source of light and hope.
Their approach is intended to distinguish it from other broadcasters in the area.
“Our focus is different because we’ll offer only Christ-centred content,” Parsons said.
Beyond its studio programming, SONshine FM says listeners will be able to contribute to community news and traffic updates, share testimonies and prayer requests, recommend music and highlight local events.
For Parsons, the station’s central message remains straightforward: “Together we are glorifying God, sharing Christ, and serving our community.”
The station is currently available online through its website and app. Listen live at www.SONshinefm.co.za or download the app, and follow them on social media.
