Young scientists take their ideas to the national stage at Eskom Expo ISF
From health and education to AI and disability solutions, young scientists are putting their research under the spotlight at the 2026 Eskom Expo ISF.
Young scientists from across South Africa, including representatives from Ekurhuleni East TVET College, will present their research at the 2026 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair (ISF).
The event will bring together 316 young scientists from 35 Eskom Expo regions across all nine provinces at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre from September 29 to October 2.
The participants will showcase projects across 13 categories, covering topics such as health and wellbeing, education, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and solutions for people with disabilities.
They will be joined by 24 international participants from countries including Brazil, India, Ireland, China, Ghana and Mozambique.
The ISF will provide learners with opportunities to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (STEMI).
Bursaries, cash prizes, laptops, tablets and other awards will also be up for grabs.
A new Mentor Award will recognise mentors who support young scientists throughout their research journey.
Public viewing
Members of the public can view the projects and meet the young researchers during the public viewing on October 1, from 15:00 to 17:00 at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre.
Visitors will be able to engage with participants and learn how young people are using research and innovation to investigate challenges affecting their schools, homes and communities.
