St Dom’s majorettes impresses

The school's majorette teams shone brightly, taking top honors in multiple categories.

St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls’ majorette teams flew their school’s flag high at the recent majorette and cheerleading league competition, hosted by the school and organised by the Gauteng Majorette and Cheerleading Association (GMCA).

The event drew in over 35 teams from across the region, treating spectators to a spectacular display of talent and entertainment.
The competition, which ran from morning till evening, was a resounding success, with the grandstand filled.

This was the first competition of the season, following the cancellation of the previous event due to inclement weather.

St Dominic’s, competing in the majorette category, emerged as one of the top performers of the day.

The Saints, the school’s high school majorette team, took home top honours in several categories, led by their talented leader Elizabeth Chimedza.

Their impressive results included:
Small drill: First place for leader (tied with Sir John), 1st place for sub-leaders, 1st place for squad and display
Flag group: First place out of eight teams
Mace group: First place (tied with Edenglen) out of five teams
Pom/Non-prop group: First place out of 10 teams

The Saintees, the school’s primary school majorette team, also delivered impressive performances. In the Small Drill category, Aphiwe Ngcobo led the team to outstanding results, while Gianna Bussack will take the reins as leader for their upcoming Large Drill performance.

The Saintees’ results included:
Small drill: Second place for leader, first place for sub-leaders and first place for squad and display
Flag group: First place out of eight teams
Mace group: First place out of 3 teams
Pom/Non-prop group: First place out of nine teams

According to St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls marketing manager Sharon Antonizzi, the teams’ success would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of coaches Alisha Venter, Matthew Higgs, Natalie Brink, Zoe Pretorius and Rabi Mobeng.
“Their hard work and guidance have been instrumental in shaping our teams into the talented and confident performers they are today.”

The next exciting event on the calendar is the Knight of Champs competition, where teams will showcase their Large Drill displays. The event is scheduled to take place on April, 12 at St Dominic’s and spectators are invited to come and support their favourite teams.
