Why are we still waiting for our streetlights to be fixed?

Shaun Carter, Boksburg, writes:
It is with shock that I find myself writing another letter to the newspaper asking what the metro is doing about our dysfunctional streetlights.
What is our local government doing about this issue? To name but a few, we have no streetlights on Station Road, Claim, Montague, Kruger, Short and Voortrekker streets.
To add to these safety issues is the derelict home on the corner of Claim and Kruger streets, which harbours homeless addicts who pose a threat to our residents.
It is shocking that I have written so many letters in this regard, yet I have no response from the councillor or the municipality.
We are not second-class citizens. And sitting with no streetlights on our roads is a violation of our constitutional right to safety.
I am going to escalate this issue to those leaders above the councillor who can try to assist me.
This area is a historic part of Boksburg, yet you would rather place emphasis on 100-year-old Plane trees over the safety of human lives.
Every time we are without working streetlights, our lives are endangered. So, by all means, care for the Plane trees but also care for our community. Now, I am not holding out much hope for a response.
