Final notices is nothing more than daylight robbery

I would like to respond to the Advertiser’s article on page 7 of the issue dated March 3, title ‘The metro will cut your power’.

We have received numerous final notices over the past two years because we pay late.

That said, the majority in our household only receive their pay on the last day of the month and not on the 25th. We have asked council to give us some leeway or to change the due date to the last working day of the month, but were told it’s not their problem if we only receive our pay then – we must budget better.

Whenever we get a final notice there is an administrative fee of R180 that must be paid along with the account.

But then the next month on your new account that same R180 reappears. So you are not only paying R180 to the council but R360.

Now, I don’t know about you, but this seems like daylight robbery to me.

But if anyone wants to get me started about this unfair and incompetent practice of the council, then I can tell you about the nightmare I have had with the Department of Home Affairs to obtain a death certificate for my aunt.

I have been sent from pillar to post with no luck because I don’t have an ID number for her and cannot get this matter resolved.

But it seems like when you have to pay your municipal bill, then you get council’s attention.
