Mola smiles broadly following Colgate Road Race victory

Frans Mola clocked 01:47:32 to be crowned the 2017 Colgate Road Race champion, which took place at the Boksburg City Stadium on Sunday, May 7.

Mola added his name into the folklore of the 40-year-old race by finishing more than two minutes earlier than Eliud Biwott.

Charles Soza, who looked certain to win within the last 30 minutes of the 32km stretch, settled for the bronze medal.

Salomie Cooper killed the field in the women’s race when she crossed the line in 02:13:32, more than five minutes ahead of Cobie Smith. Dana van Zyl completed the podium.
