Boksburg karate dojo hosts championship
The Boksburg Dojo-Shotokan Karate Club recently hosted the 11th Dojo Cup Inter Club Challenge Championship in Brakpan.
The event was a huge success, with more than 15 clubs and over 250 participants taking part.
They came from all over Gauteng, from as far afield as Witbank and Pretoria.
The dojo finished second overall, falling just short of a few points behind their main counterparts, the Parkrand Goju Karate Academy, led by senseis Marius and Tarryn Madgwick.
The Karate School of Champions from Witbank, led by sensei Themba Ndlovu, completed the podium.
The Boksburg Dojo-Shotokan Karate Club is headed by sensei John Barnett (7th Dan) together with sensei Janien Potgieter-Benoni, sensei Takis Chaniotakos-Boksburg, sensei Louis Ramakulukusha-Crystal Park and sensei Tony VD Helm-Witbank.
Sensei Chaniotakos was left impressed with the support and enthusiasm shown by all. He explained that karate is now a recognised Olympic sport and ready to be featured in Tokyo at the 2020 Olympics, and South Africa is very excited to be a part of this journey. He said South Africa is striving to have talented participants do their best to make their mark in Tokyo.
