Oosthuizen to feature in EFC return

Added interest to EFC return.

Bantamweight boxer Billy Oosthuizen has been granted his wish of a fight when EFC 85 returns next month.

During a conversation with the Advertiser in recent weeks, the 24-year-old striker, who will be looking to improve his professional MMA record, said he missed being punched in the face.

Meanwhile, EFC organisers also confirmed that a venue for the long-awaited event is yet to be confirmed but it will be announced soon.
Oosthuizen will come into the fight as the favourite against minnow Cameron Saaiman. The 18-year-old is 2-0 in the EFC and will have to be at his best against Oosthuizen.

However, it will only serve as more entertainment for the neutrals should Saaiman spoil Oosthuizen’s 4-3-0 record with an upset in the undercard clash.

Boyd returns

The return of EFC will be aided by the return of one of the MMA promotions company’s top fighters in Boyd Allen.

Allen will take on DRC national Bruno ‘Major’ Mukulu in a lightweight clash in one of five fights on the event’s main card.

Allen had swapped the hexagon for a boxing ring where he’s impressed in most of his boxing fights during his MMA hiatus.

Explaining his return to the MMA, he said: “It’s not so much a jump from one sport to another, I’d like to compete in both (boxing and MMA) it’s just very difficult in South Africa to do that because of politics in both sports.

“There are contracts involved so that’s why now I’ve taken a fight with EFC and putting the boxing on the back foot just for a little while.
“I managed to win a title in my third fight, which I think is the fastest in SA history, then defended it in my fourth fight and then fought in the super four where I won in the semi-final only to lose in the final. I also enjoyed an international fight.

Major’s record is 6-8-1 while Allen boasts a 16-3-1 record.
