Boksburg clubs mark Comrades send-off with a good breakfast
Both events were filled with excitement, encouragement and heartfelt messages for the athletes.
With the spirit of endurance and unity in the air, two local athletics clubs, Qhubeka Athletic Club and Boksburg Athletic Club, hosted send-off breakfasts to wish their runners well ahead of the 2025 Comrades Marathon.
Qhubeka AC held its breakfast gathering on May 30, while Boksburg AC followed suit on June 1.
Both events were filled with excitement, encouragement and heartfelt messages for the athletes gearing up to take on the ultimate human race on June 8.
According to Qhubeka AC founder and coach, Benzi Tenza, the club will be sending a total of 35 runners to this year’s Comrades.
“Among them are 19 novices, first-time participants, along with 10 athletes going for their back-to-back medals.
The club also boasts five green number holders and one elite runner aiming for their double green number milestone.

“The Comrades Marathon is a test of body, mind, and spirit. Our runners have trained hard, and we are confident they will represent our club with pride,” said Tenza.
Boksburg AC will be represented by a contingent of 78 runners this year.
Club secretary Caronn Harris confirmed that 12 of their runners will be experiencing the Comrades for the first time, while six are back-to-back hopefuls, and four runners are pursuing their prestigious double green numbers, a recognition given to those who have completed 20 or more Comrades Marathons.
“It’s always a proud moment to see how far our athletes have come. We wish each of them strength, resilience and joy on the road to Durban,” said Harris.
Both clubs extended their well wishes to the runners, hoping for safe runs, personal bests, and plenty of medals to bring home.
