Billy ‘The Kid’ targets EFC featherweight title

Come October 9 all eyes will be on the WSB EFC Arena as Beyer’s Park’s finest attempts to dethrone a champion.

Billy ‘The Kid’ Oosthuizen has been carving his name into the EFC with fists that tell stories and a heart that beats for victory. Now, this Beyer’s Park powerhouse is gearing up to face the first Zambian champion in an explosive title fight at EFC 128- a chance for Billy to prove that he’s more than just a contender, but a true MMA force.

The Zambian mixed martial arts champion, Ken ‘The Takeover’ Sekeletu, will be defending his EFC featherweight crown on October 9 at the WSB EFC Arena. Sekeletu’s rapid rise saw him demolish interim champion Roedie Roets in the first round, making history by bringing the golden belt to Zambia’s Copperbelt for the first time.

Seven months on, Sekeletu faces the challenge of Oosthuizen, a seasoned veteran with 15 fights inside the EFC cage and a reputation as one of South Africa’s most dangerous strikers

‘The Kid’ has gone toe-to-toe with some of EFC’s elite, including Cameron Saaiman, Faeez Jacobs, Stephan de la Rey, and Tumisang Madiba. With just one loss in his last six battles, Oosthuizen remains one of the most exciting featherweights in the organisation’s history. Notably, he fought Ayanda Zwane for the number one contender position at EFC 121, the very same event where Sekeletu secured his championship belt.

This title fight promises fireworks as both fighters are fast finishers who prefer to keep the fight standing. Oosthuizen boasts an incredible record of finishing thirteen opponents without going to the judges, while Sekeletu has only been taken the distance once- and won. Though known for his boxing, Oosthuizen’s jiu-jitsu growth has improved dramatically, as shown in his recent submission loss to Zwane. Meanwhile, Sekeletu has never been submitted as either an amateur or pro, but neither fighter has ventured past the third round inside the cage.

With former EFC champion Dricus du Plessis continuing to showcase African MMA on the world stage, EFC remains the launchpad for the continent’s next wave of champions. For Oosthuizen, the journey to greatness is far from over.

“I’m now putting in more effort than usual, and preparations have been going well thus far with no issues or injuries,” he said.

His message to Sekeletu is clear: “I hope that he brings his best because I’m in it to win it.”
