Absalom Tete juniors impress in weekend matches
The Absalom Tete FC’s U6 and U8 sides thrilled supporters with impressive wins on August 23, while the U7s showed grit in a close defeat.
The Absalom Tete FC’s junior teams gave their supporters much to cheer about on August 23.
Excitement came with the U6 and U8 sides recording solid victories, while the U7s fought bravely to a narrow defeat.
Team manager for all the age groups, coach Ernest Seforo, said he was delighted with the club’s progress.
“The teams are showing maturity on the pitch. They grow in confidence every weekend, and the results speak for themselves,” he said.
Ernest said the U6s travelled away to face the Highlands Shabbas in Linksfield and returned with a convincing 3-0 win, adding that the game was finely balanced early on, with both goalkeepers pulling off crucial saves.
“However, just before halftime, the deadlock was broken when Elisha Sikaona delivered a curling cross that found his brother, Shawnell, who spectacularly volleyed home. That goal lifted everyone, especially the parents. You could see the amazement at the skill from such young players,” Ernest explained.
According to him, they grew stronger in the second half. Ameen Williams released Shawnell, who sprinted from the halfway line to score his second of the match.
“A few minutes later, Banele Vilakazi turned provider for Ameen, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to complete the 3-0 victory.
“Goalkeeper Nkosana Xaba again stood tall, keeping yet another clean sheet. He has been outstanding. Since the second round of the season started, he has hardly conceded. The U6 side has really transformed from weeping boys into a team to reckon with.”

The coach went on to say that the U7s kicked off against the Edenvale FC at the PG Park in Boksburg.
“Thato Masola gave the team the lead in the first half, but Edenvale struck back strongly in the second half, scoring twice to claim a 2-1 win.
Despite the loss, Ernest praised his side’s performance.
“We had our chances and played with heart. Sometimes, the result doesn’t go your way, but the effort was encouraging,” he said.

Also at the PG Park, the U8s faced the Springs Premier FC in a league clash and won 2-0. Lemuel Wall opened the scoring with a thunderous strike before Lesedi Moeti sealed the result with a composed finish.
“That was a complete performance. The U8s played as a unit, and their teamwork stood out.”
Reflecting on the weekend’s action, Ernest said, “Our success is not just about the players. The parents’ support and the coaches’ dedication make the job easier. Together, we are building the players of tomorrow.”
