East Point Shopping Centre puts a R10 000 cherry on the top of our Be a Sport project

One simple connection led to real change, and local clubs are already reaping the rewards.

There were smiles all round as local sports clubs officially collected much-needed sporting equipment donated through the Boksburg Advertiser’s Be a Sport initiative, made possible by a R10 000 contribution from East Point Shopping Centre.

The donations, purchased by the shopping centre, were handed over to Boksburg Rugby Club, East Rand United, Absalom Tete FC and Thunder Boxing Academy. Representatives from the clubs collected the equipment and expressed their appreciation for the support, which will help them continue training and developing athletes at grassroots level.

The donation was generated through East Point Shopping Centre’s Connect To Give WiFi campaign, an innovative initiative that enables shoppers to give back simply by connecting to the centre’s free WiFi. When customers log on, they are shown an advertisement, with a portion of the revenue donated to local community causes.

East Point Shopping Centre marketing manager Donald Mclellan said the initiative reflects the centre’s belief in the power of sport to strengthen communities.
