Fundraiser hosted for youngster who joins Easterns team
He plans to do well for the Easterns team.
The parents of young baseball player Ashton Devy (12), who has been selected for the Easterns Baseball Association U12 team, will host a fundraising initiative for the player at Boksburg Bowling Club on March 17.
The boy plays his club rugby at the Benoni Indians.
Ashton’s father Rory Devy said they are raising funds for his son who travels a lot with the Easterns team.
“The team also tours outside the country so the funds we raise will be used for accommodation and travel. I’m proud of him.
He has been playing baseball for less than a year and he has already been called up to the Easterns team. That’s a great achievement,” said Rory.
He said that it is important for people to support the fundraiser because it represents good things that are happening in the community.
“They will be fun activities at the fundraiser. There will be lawn bowls with a few raffles and a lot of prizes to be won. The community will be introduced to a fairly new sport.
“My son is going to compete in the National Baseball Championships that will be held at the Boksburg Cardinals baseball field from April 1 to 11. These are all preparations towards his new adventure in life.”
He added that St Patrick’s Day will also be celebrated at the Boksburg Bowling Club’s bar on the same day.
“All the people are welcome to play bowls on the fundraising day and they will also enjoy the other social events.”
