East Rand United Rugby Club held a fundraising initiative on March 11 at the Reiger Park Civic Centre Hall.
The event was held to raise money to cover their transportation, food and medical costs ahead of their upcoming Valke Super League, commencing on March 25.
According to the chairperson of the team, Marius de Vos, due to the lack of sponsorship the team has hosted a number of fundraising initiatives to raise money.
“The fundraising initiative that we hosted recently was a great success. The management and executive committee of the club organised it perfectly.”
De Vos said they are grateful and appreciative to everyone who paid the entrance fee and bought food during the fundraiser.
“The money we raised will be used for the betterment of the club. It will also help the club a lot financially.”
He added that as a club they are appealing to sponsors to assist their club.
“The team has been running for a long time without a sponsor. This team was formed a long time ago and it represents the community of Reiger Park,” said de Vos.
Ward 34 Clr Edith Klaasen, who was present at the initiative, said she attended the fundraiser to support the team that flies the Reiger Park flag.
“This team is helping a lot in our area. It keeps young people busy and out of trouble. I urge community members to support the club along with its initiatives. It is empowering and uplifting young people in the area,” concluded Klaasen.
