Nokukhanya Ndebele, a Boksburg High School netball player, recently showcased impressive skills during trials to be selected for the U16 Gauteng School Netball team.
The 16-year-old that made it into her school’s U19 netball team has made an impact since joining the team this year.
The player, who started playing netball a decade ago, said she feels ecstatic that her hard work has finally paid off and she is now looking forward to what the future holds for her in the Gauteng team.
“I was selected to be part of the team from the trials I attended. I was a bit nervous and shaky in the first phase of the trials, but I’m glad I managed to pick myself up in the last round.

“I was expecting to be part of the team because I had put in the effort to stand out. Before the trials, I learnt a lot of skills which I knew most goal shooters didn’t possess, so it was very easy for the selectors to identify me whilst playing,” she explained.
She mentioned that she would like to pursue a career in netball after matriculating.
“Jhaniele Fowler, who plays for Jamaica, is my favourite netball player. Watching her play has allowed me to broaden my playing skills. It has also inspired me to keep my head calm during matches.
“I was also inspired by my mother to play netball. Growing up she was and still is very passionate about netball. She passed that passion down to me and my younger sister as well,” she added.
“Going to the trails has taught me that I should be a versatile player. I should master every position in netball.”
