BAC aims to get more runners to the upcoming ultimate race

Bradshaw is already doing a great job as the chairperson of BAC.

The chairperson of Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC), Karen Bradshaw (49), aims to get more runners from her club to compete in the Comrades Marathon.

Bradshaw, who was elected chair after serving as vice-chair, believes they can only achieve this goal if the BAC committee works together.

“Teamwork makes a great dream work. Alone we can only do little, but together we can do much more. The club’s success is largely dependent on the work of the committee.

“We have to ensure our athletes are comfortable enough to achieve our set goal,” expressed Bradshaw.

She said their main goal for 2022/2023 is to create a welcoming environment for all runners.

“We are proud of all our athletes who participated in the Comrades Marathon this year. We managed to bag four silver medals and our first-time runner finished 167th, which is good for someone making their debut.

“We also hosted a successful Colgate Race. The participation of the runners improved this year. Last year we saw 4 500 runners and this year 7 000 participated,” Bradshaw explained.

To help their athletes, the club has extended training runs beyond weekends to Tuesday early mornings and has trail runs on Wednesdays.
