Veteran bowler Kritzinger to lead Gauteng Bowls

She takes over from Alberton Bowling Club's Craig Hall and will begin her reign in the new year.

The Bowls Gauteng North (BGN) stalwart Sanette Kritzinger has been appointed the new Gauteng Bowls (GB) president.

Kritzinger, an avid bowler from Harlequins Bowling Club in Pretoria, takes over from Ekurhuleni Bowls and Alberton Bowling Club member Craig Hall. She will officially start in the new year.

The bowler, with more than 20 years of experience as a player and administrator, served on the executive committee of the BGN for a number of years and also managed the BGN ladies’ district teams.

Her portfolio includes looking after the five provincial districts, namely Ekurhuleni Bowls, Sedibeng Bowls, Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA), Sables Bowling Association and BGN who over 6 000 members among them.

“Being elected as the president of Gauteng Bowls is a well-received responsibility that will allow for fresh, new and exciting changes to be implemented in order to grow the interest for this great sport,” said Kritzinger.

Her executive team includes Mike Hunt from Ekurhuleni Bowls (EKB), who will serve as secretary and Wimpie Muller from BGN, as the treasurer.

The president-elect will also be supported by a team of delegates to help her execute her mandate and carry out the club’s initiatives. The team comprises the EKB’s Alana Warrender, Rob Zimmerman from the JBA, Basil le Granje from BGN and Raymond Hocknell from Sedibeng Bowls.

The GB has also appointed a media and marketing team, which will be headed by Chantal Nel, who will manage the BGN and JBA districts, and Chantal Henn, who will manage the EKB, Sedibeng and Sables districts.

“This team is critical to the success of helping GB to grow. They will ensure anything and all things related to bowls are seen and heard in the right places at the right time,” Kritzinger said.

She explained the new season will begin with the Gauteng Challenge, where the various districts’ top bowlers will face each other for the provincial title, in Sedibeng.

“The Gauteng province currently contributes the largest number of bowlers in the national Protea team and has over 6 000 bowlers. With this in mind, it’s safe to say Gauteng is your bowling province of choice,” she added.
