#WomensMonth: Sportscaster relishes her success

Lindiwe Dube continues to make wonders as a sportscaster

Born and bred in Daveyton, award-winning sports broadcaster Lindiwe Nxumalo is an inspiration to other young women.

Raised by a single parent who was a domestic worker, Nxumalo did not allow her family background to stand in the way of her ambitions and dreams.

“As a township girl who’s living her dream, I’m incredibly proud to be from Daveyton. I hope my story inspires the next generation of young women,” she said.

The 33-year-old TV sports presenter said her enthusiasm for sports broadcasting blossomed in 2012 while she was working as an intern at YFM.

“The transition from radio to TV was really interesting and challenging as I didn’t have any television background. The experience was exciting and scary.

“I believe that every person is as good as their last game whether working in corporate or other industry, there’s always room for improvement. Everyone is unique, talented and brings a different element to their style of presenting, which sets us all apart,” said Nxumalo.

The reputed journalist has presented the MultiChoice Diski Challenge and shows like Homeground and FanBase.

“I’ve won several awards but the one that stands out for me is the PSL Chairman’s Award that I won in 2019. It will always be special to me because of its recognition from Dr Irvin Khoza. I didn’t expect to win such an award so early in my career. I’ve learnt so much from different people in different roles, not just on and off camera.

“I’ve worked with some of the best in the game and I look forward to continuing learning from them. It will be great to see more young people tapping into this market, therefore, meeting new faces at press conferences,” said Nxumalo.

The multi-talented broadcaster said her family, especially her mother Lizzy Dube, has shown her immense support.

“She has supported me when I sang in a choir in primary school, pageants in high school and now broadcasting. I’m grateful for my family and the gift of life,” she said.
