CoE aware of security issues at Tweedy Park

The metro is investigating the broken fence, and will reconsider hiring security for the complex.

There is no budget for extra security at the Tweedy Park Old Age Home. This is according to the City of Ekurhuleni and in response to an article in last week’s Brakpan Herald, ‘Residents rattled after theft from Tweedy Park’.

It was reported how a large opening in the perimeter fence of the home had left residents feeling unsafe.

A theft recently occurred as a result of this vulnerability in the security and a braai and five plastic chairs were stolen from the garden of cottage resident Pieter Brits (68).

Regarding the broken fence, CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini stated: “The department has notified the contractor to conduct a site inspection, which will take place on May 13.”

According to Dlamini, a previous incident of a broken fence was reported on July 8, 2022, and a work order was issued to replace three meters of the broken fence, which has been fulfilled.

Another report came in on February 6.

On the issue of security, Dlamini confirmed there is no budget for extra security but added, “We will revisit the issue and see how best the home can be secured.”
