Two officers from Specialised Services were awarded for the arrest of two wanted fugitives linked to terrorism in USA.

EMPD Commissioner Isaac Mapiyeye honoured seven EMPD officers for their bravery, outstanding service, contribution to counter-terrorism operations, traffic law enforcement and long-standing service to the department.

The officers were recognised during an award ceremony in Bedfordview on October 1 as part of the National Chiefs Forum.

Among those honoured were three officers from the Germiston South Precinct, who received the Silver Cross for Bravery following a daring rescue during a serious road accident on Refinery Road at the M2 on-ramp.

Two officers from Specialised Services were awarded the Silver Decoration for Outstanding Service for the arrest of two Interpol Red Notice wanted fugitives linked to terrorism in the United States of America.

One of the officers also received a second medal, a Commendation Medal, for his role in the arrest of three terrorism suspects.
