Braai team heading for the USA
The freezing weather could not dampen the spirits on Saturday morning when many hopeful braai experts took part in the regional finals, for a place in a national braai team to visit the US during October.
Team ChesaNyama Braai-B-Que will be heading off to the US during October, following invitations to compete in the exclusive World Food Championships in Las Vegas and the Jack Daniel’s World Barbeque Invitational in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
The team will consist of a total of eight South Africans, with four spaces up for grabs at four regional “braai-offs”, which took place during August. The last “braai-off” took place on Saturday morning outside the ChesaNyama store at the Mall@Carnival.
The top three contestants from each region earn the chance to compete at the final “braai-off” in Rosebank tomorrow (Saturday) with the once in a lifetime opportunity of representing South Africa in the US.
The team is scheduled to leave for Lynchburg on the October 21, and will travel the 3 218km between the two competitions in recreational vehicles, which will allow them to not only braai every day during their trip, but also spread a little South African culture along the way.
