I am a 34-year-old executive, well-travelled and groomed, I believe.
I’m used to making the right choices and proud of where I am.
Nothing gave me so much pleasure when I moved out of the town I was born in.
But that all changed on August 26.
I visited my parents in Brakpan North early that morning, chilly as expected.
Just another family get together. My mom had the great idea of take aways.
Off to the Casbah she said!
Service was fast, no fuss and with a smile.
Then we stopped at the Pick n Pay to get something to drink. There I had a chat with the woman packing my bags.
She told me to enjoy the rest of the day.
In Bryanston where I live that will never happen.
The next morning I went and paid my mom’s electricity, no stress at all!
Driving along Voortrekker Road I could not believe how clean the streets are.
I decided to buy a house in Brakpan, as I am an optimist and can see where the town is heading.
There are people who are trying to make a difference like the person who was cleaning the streets and the woman who told me to enjoy my day.
Hopefully in time I could enrol my little one in a Brakpan school. There is no place like home.
