56 nabbed for speeding
Speed operations conducted in Brakpan by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department,last week, resulted in the arrest of 56 motorists.

On Wednesday, October 2, and Thursday, October 3, 26 motorists were arrested for speeding along Heidelberg Road (corner of Boland Road).
One of the arrested motorists — a 44-year-old male driver of an Audi SUV — is a repeat offender, having been arrested for speeding in Benoni two months ago.
Further operations conducted along Heidelberg Road, between Lukas Stein and Geluksdal roads, saw 18 motorists arrested on Wednesday, October 2, and Thursday, October 3.
The road is a 100km/h zone and the highest speed clocked for both days was 164km/h by the female driver of a Mercedes Benz, who claimed she was late for work.
Other excessive speeds were registered at 131km/h and147km/h.
On Friday, October 4, another eight arrests were made for speeding along Heidelberg Road (between the R550 and Geluksdal Road).
The offenders clocked speeds of between 131km/h and 151km/h.
“These arrested motorists were locked up at the Tsakane Police Station and are expected to appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon to face reckless and negligent driving charges,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.
During morning speed operations on Heidelberg Road, between Airport Drive and Rangeview Road, on Friday, October 4, and Sunday, October 6, four motorists were arrested.
The offenders were caught doing speeds of between 122km/h and 130km/h in a 80km/h zone.
In addition to the arrests, the EMPD issued 36 fines for speeding.
